The Ministry of Posts and Telecommunications, in line with its determination to weed out corrupt employees from the outfit and protect the good image of government and garner the confidence of the general public, has dismissed Ms. Denise Ramsey, Assistant Director of Personnel and Training, Joseph Kiazolu, General Coordinator of Randall Street Post Office and Carrington Kumuteh, Personnel Expeditor in accordance with Section 4.2.2h of the standing orders for Civil Service of the Republic of Liberia.Their dismissal took effect on July 3, 2009.
The three were dimissed for encashing and converting into their personal use checks belonging to dismissed and dead employees of the ministry between March 2008 and May 2009. The total amount stolen was L$ 5.9m (five million, nine-hundred thousand Liberian dollars).
Ms Denise Ramsey, Joseph Kiazolu, and Carrington Kumuteh have been turned over to the Ministry of Justice. It is quite likely that these dismissed employees will face further investigation prior to indictment and prosecution due to their refusal to produce, in their own defence, records of all the checks they signed for and encashed.
Meanwhile, some corrective actions are expected to be put in place to deter and inhibit misdemeanors when the Postmaster General shall have returned from Beijing, China, where he is accompanying the Vice prisident of the Republic of Liberia, Ambassador Joseph M. Boakai, as member of an official Liberian delegation invited to that country by the government.
While in China, Hon. Sulunteh will meet with some officials of the Chinese Government and potential Chinese investors to attract their interest to support Liberia's postal recovery efforts and seek investment opportunities in the Telecommunications sector.
Dr. Marcus S.G. Dahn, Deputy Minister for Administration, will continue to act in the stead of Postmaster General Sulunteh who is expected to arrived in the country in ten days. --
