In his efforts to ensure the availability of post offices in rural Liberia, Hon Jeremiah C. Sulunteh, at the head of an eight-man delegation, took a four-day county tour from Tuesday, 14 April to Friday, 17 April. Minister Sulunteh and his team visited Voinjama, Lofa County, where the construction of a new County Post Office is ongoing and Saniquellie, Nimba County, where a damaged post office there is being repaired.
During the tour, the Minster and delegation made brief stops at the Zorzor Rural Teacher’s Training Institute. The administration of the Institute readily promised to make available one room at the Student Center to be used as a Postal Window. Similarly, the Management of ArcelorMittal, one of the biggest iron ore investors in the country, operating in Nimba County, also promised to make available one room in Yekepa, Nimba County to be used as one of the postal windows to serve its employees and families. The postal window services will be set up at all accessible academic and vocational institutions, densely populated towns including those located near Liberia’s borders with Sierra Leone, Guinea and the Ivory Coast. Post Offices are needed to adequately provide mail delivery services to these communities. These postal establishments are designed to buttress government’s efforts towards realizing the Poverty Reduction Strategy Program in Liberia.
The Minister, along with the Assistant Minster for Telecommunications, Hon. Zotawon D. Titus, travels to Lisbon, Portugal from 22 to 24 April 2009 to attend the fourth World Telecommunications Policy Forum. The Honorable Minister is scheduled to most hopefully return to the Capital, Monrovia, on Sunday 26 April 2009. While away, Hon. Marcus S.G.Dahn, Deputy Minister for Administration, will act as Minister.
