Brief History of Liberia Post

The Post Office in Liberia  was established as the Department of Posts and Telegraph in the early fifties. It later became the Ministry of Posts and Telecommunications by an Act in 1978. The Liberian postal service signed the Universal Postal Union, (UPU), Treaty in 1879. Liberia is a founding member of UPU.

The Liberian Civil War affected the Ministry of Posts and Telecommunications.  Post offices and other infrastructures were destroyed thereby paralyzing the delivery of services. After the conflict, the Ministry has been trying to regain its pre-war status with the help of UPU, the Liberian government and other  international organizations.

Today Liberians can boast of the services we provide. Liberians in most of the fifteen counties have access to postal services. The Ministry is in the process of installing new postal technology to boost its services.  With the introduction of new technologies,  Liberia Post will regain its status as the Hub of the West African  region.
